Dos and Don’ts
Dos
- Clear all debris and obstructions from around the site.
- Ensure that all minimum setback distances from buildings and boundary fences/walls are achieved.
- Provide access for excavator and concrete truck.
- Ensure necessary barricades are in place to prevent unauthorized access.
- Clearly mark the area to be excavated with necessary allowances.
- Dig only the required cut out.
- Ensure that the pit has square corners, straight & vertical sides, and a level base.
- Angle the batter and provide slopes according to soil conditions for stability.
- Remove excavated soil to a safe distance from the pit and working area.
- Ensure the base is smooth by removing stones, boulders, or rocks.
- Remove water from the pit prior to tank installation.
- Clean the pit and remove loose materials before installation.
- Position the tank so riser pipes are in convenient locations for access and connection.
- Engage correct machinery with experienced operators.
Don’ts
- Do not commence excavation if rain is forecast for that day.
- Do not over-excavate beyond the required length, breadth, and depth allowing required clearances.
