Dos and Don’ts

Dos

  • Clear all debris and obstructions from around the site.
  • Ensure that all minimum setback distances from buildings and boundary fences/walls are achieved.
  • Provide access for excavator and concrete truck.
  • Ensure necessary barricades are in place to prevent unauthorized access.
  • Clearly mark the area to be excavated with necessary allowances.
  • Dig only the required cut out.
  • Ensure that the pit has square corners, straight & vertical sides, and a level base.
  • Angle the batter and provide slopes according to soil conditions for stability.
  • Remove excavated soil to a safe distance from the pit and working area.
  • Ensure the base is smooth by removing stones, boulders, or rocks.
  • Remove water from the pit prior to tank installation.
  • Clean the pit and remove loose materials before installation.
  • Position the tank so riser pipes are in convenient locations for access and connection.
  • Engage correct machinery with experienced operators.

Don’ts

  • Do not commence excavation if rain is forecast for that day.
  • Do not over-excavate beyond the required length, breadth, and depth allowing required clearances.
